Former Ghana Coach Arday Passes On

Ghana football was thrown into a state of mourning on Sunday, 12 February 2017 following the demise of one its iconic coaches, Sam Arday.

He passed on around midday at an Accra-based hospital after losing the battle to an undisclosed illness. He was 71.

Nicknamed “Multi-System Man”, he was the first coach to guide an Africa team to an Olympic medal in football, bronze with Ghana’s U-23 team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. The Ghana Olympic team also reached the quarters of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA, under his watch.

Coach Appeals for GOL Support for ‘Skateboarding’

The coach of the National Skateboard Association (NSA), Nathaniel James has appealed to the Ministry of Youth & Sports to include the sport in its annual subscription to enable the organization to take the sport nationwide.

“Skateboard is exciting sport and we are asking the Ministry of Youth & Sports to provide annual financial support to the national association that we can make the sport popular in the country,” Coach James said in an interview with the Daily Observer, recently at the ELWA Academy campus in Monrovia.

ELWA Academy Skateboard Club Launched

The ELWA Academy in Paynesville, outside Monrovia yesterday launched the ELWA Academy Skateboard Club with 72 students from the lower and upper classes.

According to the club’s director, Pastor Arthur T. Williams, the launch is meant to offer the students a different form of recreation as “all work without play makes Jack a dull boy.”

“We selected students from the lower and upper classes,” Director Williams said, “to become members of the club. In fact we were interested in students who showed interest in the sport.”

‘Winning the Three Points Remains Our Priority’

LISCR’s Coach, Tapha Manneh says winning the three points in all of his team’s fixtures remains the team’s priority after his side ended the unbeaten run of league leaders FC Fassel on Sunday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

A lone goal from striker Christopher Walker in the 75th minute on Sunday saw the “Shipping Boys” (LISCR FC) ending the unbeaten run of the “Soccer Missionaries” (FC Fassel).

BYC–I for WAFU 4-Club Tourney in Dakar

The West African Football Union (WAFU) has invited champion club Barrack Young Controllers (BYC-I) to four inter-club tournament in Dakar, Senegal, from March 30-April 2.

Other teams invited for the tournament are Wa All Stars of Ghana, AS Tanda of La Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal’s US Goree. The four are champion clubs in the four countries.
