Petrokon Win District League

The maiden edition of the premier annual sports league of Putu Administrative District, Grand Gedeh County ended Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Pennokon Sports Pitch.

In the male category, Petrokon CKA Tiama Town defeated Karlorwleh Town 3-0. The goals were scored in the 20th, 60th and 78th minutes by Zazay Jarwleh, Jr., Dixon Wion and Prince Wiah respectively.

Mr. Barwee Bents, youth president of the District presented the trophy, valued at USD350 and a cash award of LD4, 000 to Petrokon’s skipper Tipoteh Seah.

After conquering the African continent in the soccer arena, South African based Liberian soccer star, Anthony Snoti Laffor has returned home with his honors (the medal and jersey he wore on that fateful day) and presented them to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for onward presentation to the Liberian people.

He became the first Liberian player to win the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League after playing a key role in his South African side’s (Mamelodi Sundowns) achievement.

LAF Releases Calendar of Events

The Executive Committee of the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) has approved the Calendar of Events (COE) for 2017, comprising 18 national and international activities.

According to the calendar, there will be two training opportunities in the country and an anti-doping workshop for players, administrators and technicians on Saturday, January 28.

Maryland, Montserrado in Finals Sunday

The southeastern Boys of Maryland County will battle Montserrado County in the 2016/2017 National County Sports Meet Finals on Sunday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

This follows their 2-0 victory over 2011 champions Nimba County yesterday.

The Marylanders, having qualified for the semi-finals on a goal difference after losing to Grand Cape Mount County in their last quarter-finals match, yesterday put up a splendid performance against the “Mountainous Boys” of
Nimba County, who were considered one of the tournament’s favorites.

Montserrado Reach County Meet Finals

Montserrado County yesterday reached the finals of the 2016/2017 National County Sports Meet following a 5-3 victory over Margibi County in a penalty shootout at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

With Tuesday’s semi-finals match heading into extra time, after both teams refused to find the back of the net during 90 minutes of play Montserrado County secured their spot in the final after Joseph Zayzay scored the winning penalty for Coach Samuel Sumo’s boys.
