Nimba United donates L$75,000 to GW Gibson

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) topflight champions, Nimba United on Friday presented a check for LD$75,000 to the student council government of the G. W. Gibson High School.

The President and CEO of the club Mr. Saye-taayor A. Dolo made the presentation during the inauguration of the student leadership and promised to give more support if the amount is properly utilized.

Mr. Dolo encouraged the students to chase their dreams, but noted that their aspirations will only be achieved when they remain humble.

Numennie Williams is Dead

Mr. Numennie Williams, the former President of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) is dead.

Mr. Williams died on Sunday, March 20, after an extended period of kidney failure. He has just returned from Accra, Ghana where he sought advance medical treatment.

The former SWAL president, dubbed Papie, was very innovative, hardworking and instrumental in the promotion and development of SWAL including capacity building of sports journalists.

LVF Frowns at LNOC’s Interference

The Liberia Volleyball Federation (LVF) said it would remain “adamant and unapologetic” to the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) because its membership suspension was unfair.

President Cllr. Moifee Kanneh said the LVF had a free, fair and transparent election in 2010, which was supervised by the Ministry of Youth & Sports. He disagreed that the LNOC termed the exercise as political interference.

LNOC Condemns Basketball Elections

The Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) has criticized the recently held election of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) and has given the association a 90-day ultimatum to have re-elections.

The President of the LNOC, Philipbert Browne said the basketball election has procedural errors and it was not free, fair and transparent.

Mr. Browne maintained that the LNOC is responsible to protect and safeguard the autonomy of its members, and it therefore has the right to issue ultimatum, suspension or expulsion when it is plunged into administrative or technical slip.
