Ex-UL Track & Field Captain Heads Athletic Club

The former captain of the University of Liberia (UL) Track & Field Team, Isaac Montgomery, was elected president of the Liberty Athletics Club (LAC).

Montgomery was unanimously elected by the association’s executive committee at its recent meeting.

He ran the middle distance, 800m and 1500m.

The 30-year-old ex-athlete is expected to manage the Liberty Athletics Club for three years, from October 2016 – October 2019.

LFA Begins License B Coaching Course Saturday

The Technical Department of the Liberia Football Association has announced the opening of a License B Coaching Course from Oct. 31-Nov. 25 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

The course will be handled by CAF Instructors Henry Browne, Kaetu Smith and CAF Education Officer Francis Tamba.

According to Instructor Kaetu Smith, so far 19 coaches have applied and the department is encouraging coaches who hold License C to take advantage of the course.

He said preparation runs from October 31 to November 18, and examinations will be held from November 21-25.

LAF Confirms 3 New Officials

The Executive Committee of the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) has confirmed the appointment of three new chairmen on medics, coaching and public relations committees.

The three appointed include, Coach Samuel Cooper, Emmanuel Argu, and journalist Leroy M. Sonpon III.

The three are now members of the Executive Committee of LAF. Coach Cooper is responsible to coordinate coaches and serve as technical officer of all LAF’s events as well as recruitments.

The New Focus for Sports Writers

If Liberian sports writers and broadcasters don’t promote sports with local content, then they must belong to the European Sports Writers Association and not Sports Writers Association of Liberia, SWAL.

That statement was made by Mr. Musa Hassan Bility, president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) during the official inducting ceremonies of the administration of SWAL.

SWAL Announces Standing Committees

The Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) has appointed several standing committees.

The announcement was made by Mr. Roland Mulbah, President of the association, at his induction ceremony last Friday in Monrovia.

The SWAL Standing Committees and their Chairpersons are: Advisory Committee, Omari Jackson, Chairman; Planning and Training, Malcolm W. Joseph, Chairman; and Ways, Means, and Finance, Abraham Wheon, Chairman.
