The thrust of this second article in the series on violence and its debilitating effects on society as a whole is on some of the major causes of violence. These causes are varied and occur at different levels of human society. In the first article we observed the following in the way of definitions and types or forms of violence:

It is common knowledge that violence of different forms is on the increase in Liberia. Violence is an enemy of progress and an enemy of the well being of any family, community, institution, nation and human society at large.

The thrust of this second article of our series on natural and spiritual abilities is how we can discover and develop our gifts. Episcopal Bishop Blesses Children.jpg

The presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church of the United States, Most Reverend Katherine Jefferts Schori, blessed hundreds of children at Trinity Cathedral yesterday, where over a thousand Episcopalians gathered to welcome her on her first visit to Liberia. She was welcomed to the Cathedral by Episcopal Diocesan Bishop Jonathan B.B. Hart. Today the presiding bishop traveled to Cuttington University in Suacoco, Bong County, where she received an honorary degree during a special convocation. We were moved to capture her blessing a Liberian child on Candid Camera.

For others, it is an excuse to rest from work, eat a lot and have a great time of enjoyment. Thus, many people get lost in the festivities and the commercialism associated with Christmas, losing sight of its purpose and essence.

In the previous article, we modestly explored the meaning and relevance of the Church year and the liturgical seasons. We noted that Advent is the first of the seasons. It is a four-Sunday season just before Christmas. Its thrust is on looking forward to and preparing for the birth of Jesus at Christmas (the first coming) as well as his return at the end of time to judge the world (the second coming).
