Speak Truth To Power

By:
Matenneh-Rose L. Dunbar

Such powers that keeps the minds of men down
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Powers forged out of the sweat and tears of many
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Silent dearth of the pulse of the most abused lot
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Statue as a torchbearer with no flame to ignite
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Dangling firmly to the tempo of long gone tyrants
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Walk no talk for the beat of that lost fight is faded
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Stay in the black allies till dolphins wear coat suits
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
A belief dimmed with no more zest to forge ahead
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Razing bush fires on the trails that should lead up
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
A cloud in float the rounds of temporary hoist real
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
People’s power makes responsible not loose links
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
A trend of broken hopes cargoes a rail that trails
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Hidden from the glare of all a lurk of suppression
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Wave a wand of the deceptive vigilance time tells
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
Stand fair for all rights to happiness make amends
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
When the last dash of about being official will quit
I would speak the very truth to that kind of power
