Liberia: Slums on Fire
The issue of slums in the republic of Liberia has become a serious death threat for many poverty stricken Liberians over the years. One of the reasons why people are starting to see that the slums in which many unemployed poverty stricken Liberian as well as those who are underemployed live is the rampant fire incidents that have been occurring in not more then six month since September of 2009, several fire incident occurred in the West Point Township in the country’s capital, Monrovia. These incidents cause some family to loss members and rendered many family homeless. However, the fire according to reports has usually been started by lighted candle, exposed electric wire and burning charcoal that are being use in the mat-round or zinc-round makeshifts home that are bulky in most of Monrovia’s suburb. Among the communities where previous fire incidents that have occurred, in the Brewerville, Sinkor, Bushrod Island and West Point; which have claimed many young children and adults, West Point stand the most risk of fire incident recurrence.
