Monrovia: A City at a Glance

News Section:

One of the oldest capitals in Africa is Monrovia, Liberia on the west coast of Africa. The geographical layout of the country, yea its capital, is one of the magnificent layouts known to man. The rivers and the hills which accomplished the ideal layout of the city, all concurred to create a kind of environment humans need to appreciate the works of God. The fact remains that Monrovia had not been up to the international standard as was expected due to the 25 years of power struggle that continued from 1980 to 2005 which left it filled with ghettos or slums. However, since 2006 when the first African female head of state came to being in Liberia, there are many things being done to restore the city to normal and to meet international standards. The roads are being rehabilitated and new ones are being created, new businesses are coming to town and buildings are being erected in central town and most of all there is now a city ordinance law to promote hygiene. But the infrastructural development and regulation is not all to it for a metropolitan area, with a population of 1,010,970 or 29% of the country’s total population. Of the above estimate most of them dwell in slums such as West Point, New Kru Town, and the Buzzy Quarter and Center Street, among others. There is more to be done with human development that everyone can have a way to rise above such living conditions. Take a Glance at Monrovia.
