Bill to Reduce CBL Powers Sparks Debates

MONROVIA, A major Constitutional debate is in the offing as members of the Lower House of the National Legislature have passed a bill restricting major functions of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to legislative approvals. The bill, which seeks to reduce the sole and sensitive powers of the CBL to issue banknotes and mint coins, was passed into law by members of the House of Representatives on Thursday, June 13, 2008.
