Published:  16 May, 2008

The Women of Fire are hosting a series of events this week to officially celebrate the launching of the Monrovia branch of the organization, climaxing with the 6th annual Taste of Liberia festival on Saturday, May 17, at the White House in Congo Town. Based in Atlanta, Georgia USA, Women of Fire have since 2002 raised funds through The Taste of Liberia festival and other creative, tasteful events for the benefit and development of women and children in Liberia. On Tuesday Fire conducted a Career Day Panel discussion at the College of West Africa (CWA) where professional Liberian women shared their experiences in their chosen fields. On Thursday, the Women of Fire visited the Obaa's Girls in Monrovia.

Today they will visit the Love a Child Orphanage in Paynesville and on Saturday, the hallmark event, The Taste of Liberia festival, a celebration of Liberian culture and heritage. The event hops nimbly in step with the observance of Unification Day just two days go. So of there will be reason to continue the celebration of Liberian unity quite eventfully through the weekend, for a good cause. The Saturday afternoon festival will feature musical entertainment, cultural performances, artists showcase, children's activities and a sampling of cuisine from all over Liberia. Admission is free and there will be nominal charge for food and drinks. Proceeds from the event go toward the various projects Women of Fire undertake for Liberians in need.

Friends Integrated for Remarkable Excellence, a humanitarian organization of Liberian women, was founded in August of 2002 and is a registered non-profit corporation in the state of Georgia. The Women of FIRE, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and is legally recognized as such. FIRE's primary purpose is to offer assistance to grassroots entities serving the underprivileged in Liberia, with a particular focus on women and children.

FIRE was organized in response to the overwhelming need for humanitarian assistance in Liberia, a country recovering from 14 years of civil strife. The organization is currently operated with 100% volunteer effort, with membership being comprised of Liberian women who share a passion for charitable efforts and Liberian heritage. Collectively, they give of their time and energy to support organizations that offer assistance to the needy in Liberia, believing such efforts will positively impact our community and country. Women of Fire members actively commit resources and talents to raising funds in order to achieve FIRE's goals. In addition to soliciting donations and grants, they host local fundraisers in the Atlanta area.

Women of Fire believe that by encouraging the individual growth of children in Liberia, we will foster in them a sense of self-worth and instill the belief in the greater good and a better society. Women of Fire also stand for excellence and promote progress wherever they can, in order to create opportunities for children, women and men to better themselves, their communities and their nation through education.
