One of sports writing idols, who served as one of the presidents of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) reportedly passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 and was strangely buried on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Barnersville Cemetery. The late J. Caesar Padmore, a former employee of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and one of the founding members of SWAL died at the JFK Memorial Hospital last Wednesday, five days after being hospitalized there. The long serving journalist's mysterious sickness and burial has sparked debates in many sporting quarters, with some contrary attributions to 'witch' and/or 'AIDS.'

The U20 Handball team of the Liberia National Handball Association (LINHA) left the country over the weekend for Lome, Togo to participate in the 'Zone Three Challenge Trophy Tournament', beginning today, April 13-16. The U20 Lone Star 23-man party, headed by Napoleon Jaeploe of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is comprised of 14 players and nine officials.

The membership committee of the local governing body of sports journalists in Liberia has begun its 2009 Accreditation Process and is urging members to regularize their status to avoid embarrassment. The membership committee in consultation with the leadership of the Sports Writers Association Liberia (SWAL) has announced that the accreditation for this year will run from Tuesday, April 8, 2009 to Wednesday, April 8, 2010. According to SWAL release, accreditation for full member for sports reporters is L$700.00, while associate member is L$900.00.

Observer reporter and Press Union of Liberia sports reporter 2007/2008 F. Momolu Dorley has drafted a plan on rebranding Liberia sports. Dorley reckons that football brings economic benefits when properly managed citing that this was lacking in Liberia at present. However, the coincidence which took place in our country a few weeks ago, which saw the County Meet bringing in of huge banknotes despite the global economic slowdown and the downfall of Liberia's champions, Mighty Barrolle and Black Star, in the continental championships, are food for thought on how we get our football and other sports back on course.

The Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) under the sponsorship of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will this Friday April 3, 2009 conduct a one-day Anti-Doping Awareness Campaign. According to the LNOC secretariat, the program will commence with a parade by participants from the B.W. Harris High School on Broad Street, through the principal streets and end at the Sports Commission on Broad Street where an indoor program will be held.

The Women Football League of Liberia is expected to be placed into a 'Special Category' under the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and be sliced of certain privileges and rights appertaining them under the World Football governing body, FIFA. Reports gathered have it that the decision to place the 15-team's Women Football Clubs in 'Special Category' is based on a resolution sent by Women Football Clubs to the Executive Committee of the LFA through their Acting Women Football Chairman, Madam Sheba Brown.
