Harry Yuan Celebrates Diamond Jubilee
Even though the age of Methuselah was not as significant as the wisdom of King Solomon to serve the people of Israel, longevity is a cherished experience for those who are blessed to enjoy it.
And to the delight of over 100 friends, family members and relatives, Mr. Harry T. Yuan, a father, uncle, grandfather, and a public servant, celebrated his 75th birth anniversary on Friday December 30, 2016 in grand style at the Heaven Lounge on Snapper Hill, Benson Street, Monrovia.
Deeply honored by the presence of several government officials, clergymen and women, children, former workmates and close confidants, Mr. Yuan said God has allowed him to reach “75 years of life and counting.”
“I am impressed that all of you have honored me tonight not because of my gradual advance in age but rather the divisions, malice, and evils we have together succeeded in overcoming as servants of our country,” Mr. Yuan noted.
He said he was particularly delighted that Heaven Lounge was chosen as the venue to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. “Wow, my 75th birth anniversary celebrated in heaven simply means God has accepted to grant me and all my friends everlasting life,” he joked.
He said God allowing him to surpass 70 years, which is scripturally set aside in Christianity as life expectancy, means more than if he were given tons of diamonds and gold.
Mr. Yuan, who is a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), heaped praises on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her tolerance and the confidence she reposed in him to serve his country.
For her part, the head of the LTA Board of Commissioners, Madam Angelique Weeks, said Mr. Yuan is a true reconciler who works tirelessly in the interest of his people.
“With a deep sense of humility, let’s say that we are grateful to President Sirleaf for giving us tonight’s honoree as a consultant at LTA. His vast experience and sacrificial style of life have brought more to the table than what we thought of as a team serving the communication sector of our country,” Madam Weeks said.
She said she has learned a lot from Commissioner Yuan since taking office in 2009 and has mustered courage to behave as a leader and accept the test of time at work and beyond.
“Commissioner Yuan has taught me to be the last to speak when I am in a part of a group in a discussion and to be patient to listen to what people say even if it is not in line with what I believe or think,” the LTA boss noted.
She said Mr. Yuan’s love for his home county Nimba is greater than what words can say and he is a Liberian who is optimistic that the country will one day be a haven of rest for people in and out of Africa.
The Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Mr. Harrison Karnwea, thanked Mr. Yuan for his selfless support to the nation, mainly for settling disputes in Nimba when he was called upon.
Mr. Karnwea conveyed President Sirleaf’s best wishes to Mr. Yuan as she could not attend and serve the role as the keynote speaker due to some other pressing national responsibilities.
