UNESCO to Declare Providence Island ‘World Culture Center’

The Officer-in-Charge of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Liberia, Stevenson Seidi, has disclosed a plan by which Providence Island will be declared a ‘World Culture Center’, but only if the Government of Liberia can ratify the Hague Convention.

Providence Island is the place the first group of former slaves landed in 1822, from United States of America.

From the Sound City Beach Jam, Timaya and Wizkid concert months afterwards and Sisqo, who came with his platinum hair and incredible dance steps, Liberia was once lively and filled with entertainment.

Well, there’s more to come with the end of Ebola in Liberia, including the biggest international concert set for May 23, 2014, presenting “Flavour” hit maker Iyanya.

Visa Denial

  The entire delegation, with one exception, of at least 18 Liberian artists that were due to perform at this year’s Liberian Musical Awards next month in the United States of America (USA), has been denied visas by the Consular Section at the US Embassy near Monrovia, an LMA official has said.

Several of the artists reportedly denied visas include local industry headliners such as “Deng, Soul Fresh, Ericgeso, Marvelous, Magnetic, among others. 

Soul Fresh To Blaze Monrovia Again

After the huge success of their first show, which ended with the group being awarded a Honda, HipCo duo Soul Fresh, is again set to blaze Monrovia, with a new show dubbed “HipCo Fiesta”.

The event will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 1, 2015.  The venue is Bernard Beach, Sinkor, outside Monrovia.

JB, who is the group’s leader, said “we are hosting this show not only to party with our fans but to give them out thanks for the level of support that they have given us.”
