Fees Up for Ministerial League

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has significantly increased the registration fees of the Inter-ministerial, Public Corporations and Agencies League from US$350 to US$500.

Director of Sports Navarro M. Saykie, Sr., told the Daily Observer Wednesday that the increment is intended to improve the organization and awards of the tournament.

The tournament includes football, kickball and volleyball.

“The increase is also to meet the demand of match officials in the three events,” he said.

Nimba’s Sam Jackson and Bassa’s David Paye

County Soccer Meet’s Remarkable 6

FIFA 1995 World Player, George M. Weah, last Sunday expressed disappointment at the performance of Nimba County football team in the finals against Grand Bassa.

The Liberia Football Association last year, 2013, charged Ambassador Weah to identify potential players for the national soccer team, Lone Star.

He however commended Grand Bassa for a disciplined defense and effective midfield and a striking forward that earned them the victory.

He was full of praise for Bassa’s David Paye, for a wonderful job.

Dumboy Thicker than GB!

Striker David Paye’s double in the 6th and 41st minutes were enough to defeat Nimba 2-1 and to lift the football trophy of the 2013-2014 National County Sports Meet after 24 years at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Nimba’s only consolation goal came through striker Sawtee Nimely in the 57th minute.

Grand Bassa led Group 1; but with the absence of its potent striker Varney Sando owing to a controversial 83th-minute red card in the match against Bong, Bassa went into the game as the underdog.

Minister of Youth & Sports, Eugene Nagbe

‘2014 County Meet the Best Ever,’ Says Minister Nagbe

Youth & Sports Minister Eugene Nagbe has refuted the claim that the on-going County Meet’s organization has been poor, insisting that it is the best organized in recent times.

He said all the fifteen counties received the same treatment, including the time funds were made available for preparation.

He told the Daily Observer yesterday that this year’s theme ‘Celebrating 10 years of Peace through sports’ is justified by the overwhelming participation of counties in the various disciplines.
