Reducing The Risks of Investing in Agri-preneurs: How This Kenyan Is Doing It

“There is nothing genius about what we decided to do,” believes Kenyan entrepreneur, Alex Mwaura Muriu, 27. “We just looked around and asked: how come no one is giving ‘agri-preneurs’ money without too many strings attached? How come no one realises these young farmers do not have the things they are asked for [to get financing], like collateral?”

Bong College Nets US$800K

The Bong County Technical College (BCTC) in Gbarnga has received US$800K from the County Legislative Caucus.

The money comes from the county’s Social Development Fund approved by the Bong County Legislative Caucus in agreement with local leaders.

At their April 2014 sitting in Gbarnga, the delegates, including local chiefs, prominent citizens and members of the county’s Legislative Caucus allocated an additional US$1m to the Bong County Technical College.

Africa: Oracle Academy and Raspberry Pi Foundation Launch an Ambitious Project

Oracle Academy and the Raspberry Pi Foundation today officially launched Oracle Raspberry Pi Weather Station for Schools an ambitious project to join thousands of schools in Africa and around the world in a global science experiment. Participating schools will receive a Raspberry Pi hardware kit for students to build and operate their own weather station with the aim of gaining valuable skills spanning computing, meteorology and geography. Schools are encouraged to register their interest on Raspberry Pi’s website.

TMASCO Seeks US$175,000 Loan

The president of the commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Association (TMASCO), Kollie Koiyan is calling on the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and investors to empower the union with US$175,000 loan to purchase 50 tricycles.

He made the appeal on Saturday at a one day workshop organized by the union to educate its members on defensive driving by ensuring that tricycle operators minimize accidents in the country.

According to the TMASCO president, commercial tricycles will empower the unemployed to gain employment.
