Lonestar: Satellite Dish Installed But Not Activated

Amidst an ongoing investigation by the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) into the re-installation of a decommissioned satellite dish by the cellular giant, Lonestar Cell MTN, the mobile operator has released a statement declaring its innocence in the whole saga. Nevertheless, it admitted that it re-installed the decommissioned dish, but has not re-activated it in Toe Town, Grand Gedeh County.

WOCCU Awaits Gov’t’s Approval to Resume Operations

The World Council of Credit Unions can no longer wait to resume its operations in the country, but said it is awaiting approval from the Liberian Government, an indication that the country is now safe for business.

WOCCU, which has been in the country since 2013, is involved in the construction of credit union centers throughout the country in an effort to empower local financial savings institutions helping members to expand their businesses.

R’cess Business Community Commends CBL for Financial Inclusion

The Rivercess business community has commended the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and its Board of Governors for efforts aimed at ensuring to every Liberian nationwide economic and financial inclusion. 

This is the first time this has happened since the establishment of the county in early 1985, the traditional leaders from the two main ethnic groups, Bassa and Kru said.  They praised the CBL and its leadership for the opening of the Rural Community Finance Institution (RCFI), which is the first of its kind in the county.

CBL Dedicates Rivercess’ First Bank

The Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Dr. J. Mills Jones last Friday dedicated the first newly constructed, rural finance institution in Cestos City, Rivercess County.

The establishment of the bank is a manifestation of CBL’s financial inclusion outreach to citizens residing in rural Liberia to make financial services as well as loans for market women more easily accessible.

Sinoe County to Get US$120M Gold Investment

The Executive Director of the National Investment Commission (NIC), George Wisner, has disclosed a US$120 million investment in Sinoe County by Hummingbird Mining Company.

The signing Agreement will be officially held on July 9, 2015, in Greenville, the county’s capital city.

At the Ministry of Information regular press briefing yesterday, Mr. Wisner said the investment now by Hummingbird was cardinal due to the current drop in prices of many of Liberia’s major export commodities, including rubber and iron ore, which is ridiculously low on the world market.
