‘A Call for Responsible Leadership’

A two-day enrichment and empowerment leadership workshop intended to promote peace, good governance, democracy, ethics in leadership, anti-corruption, and civic mindedness, has ended in Monrovia with a call for the participants to exercise responsible leadership.

The workshop was conducted by the Restoration of Education Advancement Program (REAP), with support from the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL).

The two-day workshop started on Monday, October 28 to the 29, at the conference hall of the YMCA, on Broad Street.

Bong County Health Delivery System in a Mess

The health services delivery system of Bong County is in a total mess due to the dysfunctional state of almost all of the ambulances used to transport patients, most specifically the transportation of pregnant women and those in need of emergency medical attention at various health facilities in the county, the County Health Officer (CHO), Dr. Samson K. Arzoaquoi, has raised a red-flag.

The Head of Liberia’s European Union Delegation, Attilio Pacifici, has presented a Soil Atlas to Daily Observer Publisher Kenneth Y. Best, in observance of the publisher's 75th birth anniversary. 

Mr. Best turned 75 on October 28.

Ambassador Pacifici in a letter to Mr. Best said the first ever African Soil Atlas is intended to enhance the work of the Daily Observer by providing rich information that the public will research in the Daily Observer Library.

24-hrs to Vacate, or Else…

The General Services Agency (GSA), Tuesday, November 4, gave occupants of E.J. Roye Building a 24-hour ultimatum to vacate the premises or else face the consequences of an eviction that should be carried out today (November 5).

E.J. Roye Building on Ashmun Street in Monrovia, houses Liberia’s oldest political party, the True Whig Party (TWP), which ruled Liberia for more than a century.

ArcelorMittal, RICCE Conservation Agriculture Gains Momentum

The newly-introduced farming method known as “conservation agriculture” launched in Nimba by ArcelorMittal and the Rural Integrated Center for Community Empowerment (RICCE), is said to be gaining momentum in communities surrounding the North Nimba Nature Reserve in Nimba County.

This new method is unlike the shifting cultivation method, which is so prevalent in Liberia: Farmers make farms on a yearly basis while moving from one place to another, cutting down and burning all the trees and bushes in their chosen areas.
