Liberia, Japan Sign US$4.2M Non-Project Grant Aid

The Governments of Liberia and Japan have signed a Non-Project Grant Aid valued at US$4.2 million for economic and social development at a ceremony held yesterday, in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Acting Foreign Minister Elias Shoniyin signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia, while Ambassador Kaoru Yoshimura signed on behalf of the Japanese Government.

Minister Shoniyin noted that Japan has extended not only to Liberia, but to the entire African region, significant development assistance under the JICA arrangement.

Montana Legislator Interested in Hydro Power in Gbarpolu

A member of the Montana State Legislator has expressed interest in developing small hydro electrical power generation in Gbarpolu County to help rural dwellers access cheaper electricity.

 Representative Dave Hagstrom from District #53 in the State of Montana (United States) said he has done some assessment of the county and found that power is a major problem there.

Kpan Town Begins Construction of Two Bridges

At long last, the problem of bad road connecting the Townships of Barnersville and Caldwell is finally being tackled with the construction of two bridges in Kpan Town Community, on the outskirts of Barnersville, in Montserrado County District # 11.  Construction began began last Saturday.

The chairman of Kpan Town, Elder Francis Dunor said the bridges would not only address the inaccessibility of the two townships but would tackle illnesses because of the compulsory walk in the unhygienic water, and boost businesses.

LIPA, Ghanaian Oil Firm to Train Liberians

The Liberia Institute for Public Administration (LIPA) has completed oil and gas training needs assessment to provide training for civil servants for jobs in the industry.

The Director General of LIPA, Mr. Oblayon Blayon Nyemah, Sr., said a course on oil and gas management training is underway following the completion of a curriculum and modules for oil and gas management.
