Gender Min. Cassell: ‘Nearly four of 10 girls are pregnant before the age of 19’

Troubling Statistics

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Julia Duncan Cassell, has stated that although 90 percent of Liberians are aware of the benefits of condoms, yet only three out of 10 use it during sexual intercourse.

Min. Cassell, who quoted the 2013 Liberian Demographic and Health Survey (LDHS), also disclosed that “only two out of 10 women and approximately 4.5 out of 10 men used condoms during their last sexual activities.”

Aquaculture Farmers Plead for Support

The founder and president of the Bong County Aquaculture Association Madam Estelle Liberty have called on the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Agriculture, non-governmental organizations and county authorities to support women farmers in the county.

Madam Liberty made the call recently in Gbarnga, Bong County when she harvested her three fish ponds. She said the women are working tirelessly.
“Some of these women in this business are widows who cannot afford to do otherwise,” she said.

The flooded corridor of Marvii Sonii Elementary and Jr. High School in Clara Town

“It is bad Inside Clara Town”

Yesterday’s torrential rainfall left the Vai and Clara town communities badly flooded up to a foot or more in some areas with no option for residents but to wade through the muddy water to get to their destinations.

As the rainy season settles in for the next six months, heavy tropical rainstorms like this morning’s downpour with crashes of thunder and lightning can be expected. Also not surprising is the flooding of many residential areas in the country which have not been fixed to prevent them from being submerged by the torrential rainfall.
