Let's Lecture: One Year On...

Our father, Daddy, Bossman, Chief and Pater Familias wrote entries in this column as part of his Let's Lecture series. He used this column as a platform to give voice to the urgent needs of the Liberian people and to remind our leaders of their duty to protect and serve.

His last entry was on December 22, 2015. Less than 6 weeks later, he would be found murdered with his mutilated body found steps from and in plain view of the seat of the Liberian presidency.


The Liberian Senate, through its Committees on Lands, Mines, Energy, Natural Resources and Environment & Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims and Petitions, has been commended for the reconvening of public hearing on the proposed Bill creating the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), the new institutional structure that will consolidate land functions from existing agencies of the Government. Public hearing on the Bill was suspended on September 30, 2015, to allow for internal consultations among agencies of the Government that had issues with some provisions of the Bill.

Land Commission and the Land Governance Support Activity (LGSA) completes ten days awareness campaign on the Land Authority Bill

The Land Commission in collaboration with one of its partners, Land Governance Support Activity (LGSA) has completed a ten-day intensive awareness campaign on the draft Land Authority Bill.

The awareness campaign, which started on December 15 and ended on December 24, 2015, targeted seven counties of Liberia, which included Montserrado, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi, Bong and Sinoe.

The Importance of the Land Rights Bill to Liberia’s Land Reform Part II (Land Ownership)

The Land Rights Bill is a proposed law currently before the Legislature for review. The Bill seeks to establish authentic procedures and well organized processes for land acquisition, use, management and administration in Liberia.

The Land Rights Bill highlights several key issues relevant to the holistic reformation of Liberia’s land sector. One of such is Land Ownership.
