Lone Star B’ball Team Set for 3x3 Championship

The Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) has announced its confirmation and selection of its team after rigorous training, to participate in the 2015 Inaugural FIBA Africa Zone 3 - 3x3 basketball tournament.

The Junior Lone Star basketball team would participate in only the U-18 male category. The remaining groups in the FIBA Africa Zone 3 - 3x3 basketball tournament, include the U-18 female, senior male and senior female.

Seventh Grader Bernice Nimely has a passion for sports and would love to see more but positive decisions made to advance them.

The exceptional student of the Brigade Preparatory & Junior High School at Camp Schefflin plays basketball, soccer, volleyball and table tennis. She is a child of multiple talents and her parents are pleased with her. She follows the example of her sister Gifty Hanson (track and field) and her brother Sam Hanson (soccer).

No Basketball League in 2015?

May is strictly set aside for the resumption of all sporting activities by associations since the outbreak and flush-out of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Major associations, including football, athletics, kickball, table tennis and lawn tennis have commenced their activities, except the country’s second popular sport, basketball.

Up to this date, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has suspended basketball activities due the leadership crisis in the association began over the last four months.

Basketball Activities Suspended


The Ministry of Youth and Sports, with immediate effect, has suspended the activities of basketball in the country and referred the leadership crisis to the continental basketball governing body, Federation of the International Basketball Association, (FIBA)-Africa.

Interim Body Suggested for Liberia Basketball Federation

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been asked to set up an interim body to run the Liberia Basketball Federation.

First division club, Flames’ president Calvin Diggs told the Daily Observer yesterday in an interview in Monrovia that the Ministry cannot allow basketball to wait forever and must to bring sanity into its leadership.

“We raised legitimate concerns with the ministry on the outgoing leadership of Mr. Rufus Anderson,” Diggs said, “therefore for a way forward; I’m suggesting an interim body.”
