Ganta Comes Alive

Eleven participating rural high schools began arriving in the commercial city of Ganta in Nimba County for the first post Ebola basketball tournament to run from Nov. 5-8.

Participating schools are defending champions, St. Martins, Gboveh High, and William V.S. Tubman-Gray from Bong County.

Others are Zorzor Central High and LTI from Lofa County; C. H. Dewey from Bomi County and Brumskine High School from Grand Bassa County.

The remaining schools are from the host county – Ganta United Methodist School; St. Mary’s, Bishop Carroll and LASS.

11 Rural Schools in Upcountry Basketball Thursday

With six days to the official start of the 2015 Upcountry Basketball Tournament, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that everything is set for the tournament, which runs from Thursday, November 5 to Saturday, November 8.

The four-day basketball festival will be held for the first time (over two decades), at the Ganta United Methodist School in Ganta, Nimba County.

The Youth and Sports Ministry has announced that 11 schools from five counties have confirmed their participation.

‘Basketball Recent Elections Unacceptable’

The president of Cestos Morgas basketball team, Malcolm Joseph told sports writers yesterday that the recent election of the leadership of the Liberia Basketball Association is unacceptable because procedures were not followed.

He said he was not informed of the elections by Mr. Rufus Anderson’s administration.

“After the injunction was lifted by the court,” Joseph said, “it was the duty of Mr. Anderson to have informed the rest of the group of the next course of action.”

Nagbe’s Decision Right One for Basketball

Youth & Sports Minister Eugene Nagbe’s decision to direct the resumption of basketball activities in November if by then Liberia Basketball Association president Rufus Anderson and aggrieved stakeholders are still unable to resume their differences out of court.

It means that President Anderson must find a way to get his opponents to agree to a settlement and a way forward concerning elections and issues about financial and other problems they have raised against him.

Upcountry Basketball Tourney in Nimba County

With two days to the endorsement of the 2015/2016 Fiscal Budget, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has fixed the date for the 2015/2016 Upcountry Basketball Tournament for Thursday, November 5 to Saturday, November 8.

The four-day basketball festival will be held for the first time (over two decades), at the Ganta United Methodist School in Ganta, Nimba County.

Assistant Sports Minister Murvee Gray told the Daily Observer yesterday that the tourney would bring nine schools from nine counties.
