4,000 Local Farmers Recruited for Food Security Project

 

The program officer of the Farmers Union Network of Liberia (FUN), John Alphanso Perkins, has disclosed more then 4,000 local farmers from Bong, Grand Bassa, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties have been recruited for a 2-year food security project.

Mr. Perkins made the disclosure to the Daily Observer newspaper recently at his office in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

FUN to Resume Farmers’ Consultation

 

The Farmers’ Union Network of Liberia (FUN) is expected to soon resume its consultation meeting with farmers across the country.

The program officer of FUN, John Alphanso Perkins, made the disclosure to the Daily Observer, Thursday, January 02, 2014, at his office in Paynesville.

FUN is a national farmer organization that seeks to address the plight of Liberian farmers.

It is being supported through the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), with funding from the Italian government.

‘Life is Difficult in Bong’

Some subsistence farmers of Bong County, particularly those residing in Salala, Salala District, have said that the lack of support to farmers is making lives unbearable for the people in the area.

They made the disclosure in exclusive interviews with the Daily Observer on New Year’s Eve 2013, at their various Watch Night services in Salala Town.

The services were attended by over 300 hundred residents of the community; including church leaders and the local authorities.

National ToT Workshop on SRI Practices Ends in Kakata

 

The national trainers of trainers (ToT) workshop on the practices of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) workshop on last Thursday ended in Kakata, Margibi County with participants committing themselves to prioritize SRI in the production of rice to train farmers in the country.

A term of reference was developed that would ensure that the program be carried out speedily.

It seeks among other things, the monitoring and evaluation of various rice projects on the SRI practices.
